The primary mission of the Building Inspection Division is to ensure buildings are constructed in compliance with the City's adopted construction codes; building safety is the division's number one concern.

Provides a broad range of professional civil and municipal engineering services to develop, maintain and improve the City's infrastructure with our Capital Improvement Program.

The Engineering  / Planning Division is comprised of the Planning Services, Regulatory Services, Code Compliance
and Traffic Safety.

Planning Services  
Administers the Zoning Ordinances and Subdivision Regulations for the City of Gillette. Planning staff reviews and issues permits for current development activities of homeowners and developers.

Regulatory Services
Reviews all subdivision, annexation and development proposals, and commercial building permits within the planning district boundaries and must review, approve and permit the infrastructure improvements within the same. 

Code Compliance:  
Deals with nuisance complaints and issues such as tall weeds and grass. This program operates year-round and has been very successful in keeping with the City’s beautification plan.

The GIS Division has been given the responsibility to create, maintain, and ensure the integrity of all mapping products. They maintain more than 300 Gigabytes of maps and data pertaining to nearly every aspect of City operations. The GIS Division provides support and training in several mapping applications. In addition to City staff, GIS also provides information to the citizens including Engineers, Consultants, Developers, and Realtors.
