NATURE/PURPOSE OF WORK: Under general supervision, undertakes and performs a variety of duties associated with setting up of utility service meters, reading of meter usage, meter repair and maintenance, and related utility services.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Follows assigned route. Reads meters. Records readings. Reviews meter operation. Determines if functioning properly. Undertakes and performs repairs. Arranges for and installs new meters as required. Monitors usage. Identifies consumption read-outs. Re-reads meter as required.

Turns in read out records. As instructed, conducts meter re-reads. Evaluates meter performance. Recommends and/or undertakes meter repairs and/or change-outs.

Checks for vandalism, service theft and other related activities. Notes alleged violation. Contacts supervisor. Turns service on. Checks for meter operation. Delivers shut off notices. Turns off service as instructed. Removes meter. Under direct supervision assists Electrical Services as required.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

Ø Knowledge of applicable city, county, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations, administrative orders, case law and other governing rules and regulations.

Ø Knowledge of the City’s and the Department’s policies and procedures.

Ø Knowledge of the principles of file and records management.

Ø Knowledge of the principles of inventory control.

Ø Knowledge of the principles of electrical wiring processes and procedures.

Ø Skill in reading, understanding, interpreting and applying relevant city, county, state and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes, regulations, administrative orders, case law and other governing rules and regulations.

Ø Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.

Ø Skill in working within deadlines to complete projects and assignments.

Ø Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, other City employees, representatives from other city, county, state and/or Federal agencies, the news media, general public and/or others having business with the City of Gillette.

Ø Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software and operating systems/applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A high school diploma or GED AND one (1) year of relevant electrical, utility, customer service or closely related experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Additional Requirements:

Must obtain within six (6) months of employment and must maintain Red Cross certification in First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials and/or other items weighing up to 45 pounds.

Must have and maintain a valid Wyoming State driver’s license.

May be exposed to high voltage, dangerous machinery, potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions and infectious diseases.

May be required to work outside the traditional work schedule.

May be subject to call out and/or call-back.
