Adoptions

We do not allow public walkthroughs of our kennel areas in order to reduce the stress, fear and anxiety of our animals. Books are available at the front lobby for patrons to view our adoptable pets' pictures and bios. All of our available animals are listed on our Adopt a Pet page. If there is an animal you are interested in meeting, please speak with a front desk staff member and we will bring the animal up to meet you. All adoptions are first come, first serve - we do not reserve or hold animals.

Please complete an application in person for all adoptions.

Lost/Found Pets

The City of Gillette Animal Shelter is actively looking to reunite pets with their families.

Stray Impounds

If you are missing a pet or have found a pet, we encourage you to check with the shelter every day by calling or stopping by the shelter during business hours. We also highly recommend you post on social media and alert your neighbors and friends. Be sure to check with the City of Gillette Animal regularly, even if you do not see your missing pet on the Stray Impound page.

You can report a lost or missing pet by visiting Petco Love Lost.
Please note that submitting a lost pet report through Petco Love Lost's website does not guarantee that the City of Gillette Animal Shelter will be able to locate and reunite you with your pet. Be sure to check with the City of Gillette Animal Shelter regularly for your missing pet.

Surrenders

Appointments are required to surrender a pet. Please contact the shelter at (307) 686-5249 to set up an appointment for surrendering.

Surrender Fees

  • Dogs: $10.00
  • Cats: $5.00

The City of Gillette Animal Shelter works with Adopt a Pet to help those in need of rehoming their pet(s) in lieu of surrendering the animal to the shelter. This service allows the owner to list their pet(s) as needing a new home from their own home. The Animal Shelter does not have any involvement in this process as it is strictly between the Owner and the Interested Party.

If you have questions regarding this service, please use this link.

Foster Program

Opening your home to a shelter animal, even for a short time, can make a lifelong difference. Our Foster Program gives animals a break from the shelter environment and a chance to thrive in a home setting. Whether they need extra socialization, time to grow, or simply a quiet place to decompress, fosters play a critical role in helping pets become adoption-ready.

When you foster, you help us:

  • Create space in the shelter for more animals in need
  • Reduce stress for animals who may struggle in a kennel environment
  • Provide better insight into an animal's personality in a home setting
  • Help young, sick, or recovering animals gets the care they need.

Animals enter our Foster Program for all kinds of reasons, including:

  • Kittens and puppies too young for adoption
  • Medical cases recovering from illness, injury, or surgery
  • Shy or stressed animals who need help building confidence
  • Moms with babies who need a safe, quiet space
  • Overflow situations, especially during busy seasons

Fostering is easier than you might think and we will support you every step of the way. We provide food and supplies, medical care and guidance from our team. You just have to provide a safe, loving home with daily care and attention.

Ready to get started? Joining our Foster Program is simple! Just fill out our foster application and a team member will contact you.
