Area of Responsibility: To hear appeals of contractors in regard to alternate materials, and
regulate contractors’ licensing.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the Board of Examiners is to determine acceptable methods and materials in construction in the appeal process, review Contractor & Individual Trade License application packages (which include required documents, complaints received)and either approve or deny New and Renewal licensing as indicated by the guidelines in the City of Gillette Chapter 5 Building Ordinances.
DUTIES:
(a) The Board of Examiners may approve any alternate material or method, provided that the Board finds that the proposed design is satisfactory and that the material, method, or work offered is, for the purpose intended, at least the equivalent of that prescribed in the Building Code as adopted per City of Gillette Ordinances, Chapter 5- Building, in quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability, and safety.
(b) The Board shall require that sufficient evidence or proof is submitted to substantiate any claims that may be made regarding the use of any alternate material or method of construction.
(c) Regulate Contractor’s licensing: issuing, renewals, suspensions, revoking of contractor license.

The Board of Examiners advises the Mayor and Council on building code matters and administers contractor licensing. The board meets the second Tuesday of the month at 12:30 PM in the Community Conference Room, located on the 2nd Floor of City Hall. All members serve a three-year term.
