Councilman Dan Barks was elected to represent Ward One on the City Council in 2014.
Dan Barks grew up in Western Colorado graduating college in 1972 with a BS from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado, and from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque in 1973 with a MA. While at Adams State College Barks earned All American honors in track.
Barks was the Director of Parks and Recreation for Tucumcari, New Mexico, prior to moving to Gillette in 1976 to become the Director of Parks and Recreation for Campbell County. In 1991 Dan became General Manager for the CAM-PLEX Multi Event Facilities, a position he retired from in 2013. While at CAM-PLEX, Barks and his team brought numerous national events to Gillette and Wyoming including major RV rallies, the National High School Finals Rodeo, the World Fireworks Conference (PGI), and the World Horseshoe Pitching Championships to list a few.
Throughout the 1980s Barks served as Wyoming Commissioner of Softball for the US Amateur Softball Association.
Dan was appointed to the Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources Commission in 2006 by Governor Dave Freudenthal and reappointed in 2011 by Governor Matthew Mead. He had served as President of that Commission from September, 2012 until 2016.
Barks also serves as a member of the Gillette Regional Water Panel which works to provide quality water to Gillette and surrounding subdivisions.
In addition to being a Rotarian, Dan’s interests and activities include hunting, fishing, backpacking, snowshoeing, grandchildren, and spending time with his lovely wife Mary.
